Common scams to recognize in Terre Haute
In Western Indiana, scams worth recognizing include rental and sublet scams aimed at students, fake job and “assistant” offers, bogus tuition or “student tax” calls — and grandparent-emergency calls aimed at students’ families back home. After bad weather, also watch for door-to-door “FEMA will pay for it” repair pitches — real FEMA workers never ask for money. If any call, text, or knock feels off, describe it to the free AI line first: 1-888-985-6187. You get a quick answer in about a minute.
