Common scams to recognize in Evansville
In Southwest Indiana, scams worth recognizing include: fake bank “fraud alert” texts, utility shut-off threats, rental listings for apartments the scammer has never seen, and fake toll-payment texts. After bad weather, also watch for door-to-door “FEMA will pay for it” repair pitches — real FEMA workers never ask for money. If any call, text, or knock feels off, describe it to the free AI line first: 1-888-985-6187. You get a quick answer in about a minute.
